In April 2014, I had the wonderful opportunity to spend a week mentoring 15 lovely ladies along with Larissa Bertonasco and Ludmilla Barscht from the German comics collective Spring. The comic making workshop held at the beautiful Sanskriti Kendra, was organised by the Goethe Institut and Zubaan publishers. Zubaan later published these comics as an anthology called ‘Drawing the line’. Created in response to the debates on the ground that followed the gruesome incident of rape that shook New Delhi in 2012, ‘Drawing the line’ is a thought provoking anthology of graphic narratives by fourteen spirited women artists who cleverly and subversively articulate their thoughts on a variety of issues ranging from identity to female foeticide to the importance one gives to the colour of ones skin. You can buy the book here. The three pages you see here are by Bhavana Singh from her story ‘Melanin.’ Kaveri Gopalakrishnan’s story - ‘Basic Space’ and Reshu Singh’s ‘The photo.’ |
